I am so excited about my UROPS experiment today! I am synthesizing a silica-supported heteropoly acid, H3PW12O40. It's basically a 'cluster' of oxoanions as seen in chromate-dichromate system. Now, to utilize the heteropoly acid as a solid acid that will be recovered with ease, it is supported in a silica system.
Now I am beginning to appreciate silicon chemistry which I always looked down before. Just imagine, the application of silicon in today's materials. I can tell you thousands, even millions of the usage. One of the coolest thing that silicon can do is the aerogels. You may google for it =D
I am going to test the activity of this catalyst next week. Hopefully it will catalyze my isopulegol hydration. =D
Because I am not examining catalyst activity, which usually take a lot of time, I arrived at my hall earlier than usual. When I was hanging around internet aimlessly, I stumble upon Final Fantasy music. Since, I am getting a bit bored by Korean music nowadays, I decided to reconstruct my Winamp playlist to Final Fantasy VII and XII OSTs.
The results are: I AM OBSESSED WITH JENOVA REUNION again! =D
Soon, it will be one year anniversary.
peace

omg... did u get to carry the aerogel? It must be super light?
haha.. i am not synthesizing aerogel.. i am synthesizing something whose precursor could be used to make aerogels, the tetraethyl orthosilicate.. =D
