UNLEASHED! Philosophy

Let me narrate a short philosophy behind the name which identifies with 56 individuals in this very Planet. They are basically my high school friends who had spent time with me for at least 3 years (some even more).

Once upon a time, a group of people was chosen out of countless alternatives to gather and seek knowledge in an organized union called a class. They were dissatisfied with nomenclature given to their union and thus, seek a word that may represent them best to the World so that in the future, this very name would define who were they used to be and reminded of the youth spirit associated to it.

Debates were inevitable. Suggestions were minimal, but disapproval rates were high. This meant that infrequent propositions were often quickly dismissed by democratic means of dissatisfaction and disapproval. However, majority of the population was not thinking as hard and unfortunately, not everybody shared the same vision. Some even disregard the importance of this process and even worse, disturbing the whole process by stirring some unnecessary seed of chaos. Soon, this prolonged ignorance and procrastination developed into a harsh frustration among the upper administration. Soon after that, the limit was broken and hell broke loose; The class prefect stood up and expressed his disappointment towards the whole population in a furious manner, creating a lot of serious facial expressions among the members. I could totally tell the whole world that, at that time, he totally lost it.

The majority of the thoughts at that time were clearly split between the faction preferring meaningful, philosophical, inspiring concepts and another preferring cool, catchy, funny puns. Propositions from the former faction spanned throughout several mythological concepts, Roman philosophies or scientific jargon which were obviously not well received in the ear's of the latter faction which proposed something along the acronym of several adjectives and combining them together to form something fun, catchy and cool. Time was scarce at that time and the decision had to be made. At that dark hours, I recalled to the best of my memory that a guy (a friend whom I always respect until today) proposed the name, Unleashed.

Philosophy of "Unleashed" centered around a picture of an unleashed dog which had always been constrained by physical and psychological boundaries, best described by a picture by Ellys Lim and Lewis Laidin which is the official UNLEASHED! logo now. The proposal rejected the idea of a thought which was dominated by peer pressures and stereotypes. In short, the philosophy demanded us to have an independent thinking and action and assured us that it is us and only be us who would make a decision for us which would affect us directly in the future. One of the examples were the stereotype of our class being a nerd, bookworm class who were hopeless in non-intellectual pursuit. We proved our point in the inter-class Volleyball matches. I was there and could still recalled the fervor in the air. The taste of strong unity and sense of belonging were sweet, indeed. This, defined the UNLEASHED! spirit.

The sense of unity was there after we set on different paths and went on different parts of the world. We gathered every year for an annual reunion activities, sometimes seasoned with non-trivial activities such as movie-making and choral recordings. With a script fresh from our very own member, we embarked on the journey to produce movies while handling the administration and management nightmares by our own with minimal equipment and budget. We pulled that off and I believe it was the preservation of the sense of belonging that had the priority instead of the movie quality. Everybody had fun and felt great to work and see each other with prolonged period of time once again. I, truly, had to applaud this feat and thanked everybody who had involved and put their hearts on this. (http://vixklen.blogspot.com/2010/08/unleashed-movie-ii-miss.html)

I am very confident that UNLEASHED! spirit will never cease to exist in the future and it will stay in our very blood and sweat. I am looking forward to the grand reunion where 56 of us will gather once again to celebrate the unity and ideology that we shared.

peace
