That’s what Koichi Tanaka said in Asian Science Camp 2009 before he started his lecture on breaking the barrier of scientific classifications.
You see, when you attend scientific seminars or lectures or talks, the chances that you would forget every single data, graph, curves and stuffs that you saw on that day are undeniably high. It’s, in fact, a fact. That’s the reason why my PI always emphasize me to talk about something fun and (ir)relevant so that people would remember you muttered about that quote in one particular point of their life.
It just happened to me that I attended this M3 Conference held in Biopolis, Singapore today and I was reminded of my good times attending lectures from Nobel Laureates in Japan.
Strangely, I thought about this particular quote from Mr. Tanaka from his seminar during ASC 2009. He advised us to be generalist before the age of 20 and I totally agreed to what he was trying to get across. I am going to let my kid have the freedom to do whatever he/she wishes to do before they reach the age of 20. I want them to find their passion and interest. I want them to appreciate themselves and stop lying to themselves. I want them to live a life that they are proud of.
peace
